This low mountain range features several ski areas, such as the well-known Braunlage around the Wurmberg, Sankt Andreasberg, and Hahnenklee, which together offer around 30 to 35 kilometers of downhill runs. The slopes vary in difficulty; their manageable layout makes them perfect for families with children and beginners, though experienced skiers can also find challenges on a few of the more demanding red and black runs. Although snow reliability is somewhat lower than in the Alps and heavily dependent on weather conditions, modern snow cannons provide support in many locations. In addition to alpine skiing, the Harz region offers plenty of opportunities to enjoy extensive cross-country skiing trails, charming winter walking paths through snow-covered forests, and fun toboggan runs, making it a versatile and affordable choice for winter sports enthusiasts.
